Homemade Christmas Ornaments: Little Drummer Boy

Little Drummer Boy Ornaments

"Little Drummer Boy"

Our favorite family Christmas carol is "The Little Drummer Boy". It is a great reminder of how Christmas should be centered about Jesus' birth, not the gifts or how much is spent on gifts. The Little Drummer Boy had nothing to give, except to play his drum for the Christ Child. And he did. So our little drum ornament is a special reminder on our tree.

For the past twenty years or so, the same sweet little red and white drum ornament was placed on our tree. The kids affectionately refer to it as "The Little Drummer Boy Ornament".

This old ornament had begun to show its age. The white felt was thin and had become somewhat moth-damaged. This Christmas, when we decorated our tree, I saw it and decided it was time to attempt a replacement. After looking it over closely, I was able to see how it was originally made and began to replicate it with the same supplies.

Supplies needed

I cut out 2 red felt stars (for the top and bottom drum covers)and cut a piece of white felt to wrap around the cut cardboard paper towel tube (drum body). Embroidery thread went through the star ends to hold it all together, and also as a hanger.

We are happy to have another "Little Drummer Boy Ornament."  (However, we have decided to keep the old one also, as a keepsake!)
