Barter, Swap, Trade

Money Saving Tip of the Month (featured column)
submitted by Sandy M.

I am a mother of three, and a stay at home mom, so money around here is tight. While the kids are at school I do old fashioned bartering and trading with some of my friends that have a business in the town I live in.

For example, if I need a haircut, I will trade cleaning my friends' hair salon. Plus, have extra credit for next time.

I have a friend that sells a popular brand of cosmetics, and when I am out of an item or items, I will clean her house in return of earning the needed items. The only cost to me is a little elbow grease.

My friends don't mind getting their places cleaned, and I get what I need for no out of pocket cash.

This can be done with any skill you have that you are willing to use as a bartering item.

Editor's Note: Some other skills you can trade include cooking, sewing, repair work, decorating, organizing, grocery shopping, running errands, and even baking birthday cakes! :o)
