Homemade Christmas Ornaments: Candy Canes

Submitted by Nan R. of South Carolina

"Candy Cane Christmas Ornament"

Materials:

Any flavor candy canes, your choice
metal cookie or biscuit cutters or muffin tin
toothpick
cooking spray
string or ribbon

Instructions:

Preheat oven to 300 degrees.

Spray a baking sheet where candy will be placed. I would advise only doing a few at a time for better results. Also spray cookie/biscuit cutters and place on baking sheet.

Unwrap candy canes and break into small pieces. (Tip: the curve at the top of the canes can be used to form a heart.) Cover the bottom of the cutters with the cane pieces. Place in oven and bake for about 5 to 8 minutes.

As soon as the candy starts melting take it out of oven. Spray the end of a toothpick and use it to quickly make a small hole to put your string or ribbon for hanging.

When candy begins to cool off carefully use toothpick around edges to gently help loosen candy and remove from cutter.
