Homemade Christmas Ornaments: Tissue Rolls

Submitted by Kay P. of Virginia

Gold star ornaments 1

"Up-Cycled Star Ornament"

Your friends will never know what free recycling material this star ornament is made out of unless you tell them!

To make this ornament:

Take a tube from a roll of bathroom tissue and flatten it slightly. Carefully measure and cut the tube into five even slices. Glue the tube pieces together with the lower ends touching. Let glue dry overnight before continuing.

Paint the tube star inside and out with gold craft paint. I used two coats, letting the first dry one hour before applying the second. I then let that dry overnight.

Lastly, I painted the entire star with clear glitter nail polish, and let that dry a couple of hours. In the center I glued a cardboard “flower” painted with gold glitter glue, with a flat-backed gold “gem” glued in the middle.

A simple piece of gold string tied through one of the loops makes a hanging cord and you are finished.
