Baby Food Jars: Gel Potpourri

Money Saving Tip of the Month (featured column)
submitted by Linda C. of Atglen, Pennsylvania

I have a great frugal idea for a kids project using recycled baby food jars. I run an at-home daycare and I am always looking for ways to keep the costs down on supplies for the kids.

Well, the kids and I just made gel potpourri jars as holiday gifts for their parents. I got a quart size bottle of liquid potpourri (on clearance for $.70 cents!), heated it until almost boiling and added 2 packages of unflavored gelatin.

Then we removed from heat, stirred until dissolved and poured into baby food jars that the kids had already decorated with stickers or decoupaged with tissue paper.

While gel is still wet, sprinkle on some glitter, then cover with a paper doily and some ribbon and there you have it. I made 9 gifts for the parents for less than $2.00.

I hope you enjoy the holidays as much as I do!

Note: Please supervise children when making this craft.
