Quality Fabric Materials for Pennies

Money Saving Tip of the Month (featured column)
submitted by Laurene Hartos

We have a church store in our town that mostly carries clothes. The items are all donated and then sold for a couple of dollars per bag full. You can get nice clothes here for pennies, but what I love is the out of date clothing.

There are always dozens of dresses and tops that you would never wear, but are made from wonderful fabrics. I buy these by the bag full. Some of the dresses I cut at the waist and add an elastic waist band to make a simple skirt.

Sometimes I appliqué some of the fabric to a tee shirt to match. That makes a whole new outfit for a fraction of what it would cost to buy.

The rest get cut up for quilts and other things. I have used the fabrics for placemats and napkins, tote bags, pot holders, decorative pillows, trims on curtains and towels, you name it.

Where else can you get quality fabric for so little?
