Savings for a Rainy Day

Money Saving Tip of the Month (featured column)
submitted by Sheri Richter

Suddenly, being thrust into the single mom role after 6 1/2 years of relying on two incomes, I am having to come up with creative ways to not only NOT spend money, but to save for a special outing or a rainy day.

My Mom has been doing this for years so it was the first idea I jumped on.

All the services that I normally pay someone else to do, I have re-evaluated to see if I could do them myself.

Haircuts, mowing the lawn, washing the car inside and out, etc. When I do these tasks, I put the money I would have paid to have it done, in an envelope marked "My Payday."

The kids get involved in this, too, and are excited about seeing our little savings grow and being able to do something enjoyable together with it.
