Creative Storage for Food Leftovers and Lunch Boxes

Money Saving Tip of the Month (featured column)
submitted by Judy H. of New Jersey

Here is how I try to save time and money on our family lunches!

I keep all the 8-ounce yogurt containers we use (they are store brand but a nice size with clear top plastic lids). After every meal I take the leftovers and fill one of these cups and store it in a section of the freezer, labeled and dated.

I have quite a collection filled with leftover soups, stews, macaroni and cheese, chicken nuggets, pastas with sauces, mini meatballs, chicken and rice, and so on.

They are the perfect size for the kids school lunches (and even my own).

In the morning I just grab one, heat it up in the microwave, put it in the kids thermos, and I know they are eating a healthy, homemade, satisfying lunch at school. I never have to wonder what to give them because there is always a supply of these on hand.
