Better Budgeting: Date Night on a Budget

Date Night on a Budget

Money Saving Tip of the Month (featured column)

My husband and I love going out to dinner on the weekends but over time I felt that our wallets and bank accounts hated us because of it.

I definitely didn’t want to give up our "date night" outings but wanted to change how we spent our money on food and entertainment.

We found a Mexican restaurant nearby that we really enjoyed and we could spend up to $70 for both of us to eat dinner and have a margarita (or two). But after doing some research, we found out that they offer a "happy hour" for a certain time period on Friday nights with $3 margaritas AND a live band!

Now, my husband and I eat something small before we leave (I know, this may sound crazy to some) so that we won't be too hungry. This allows us to get out and enjoy a couple drinks, munch on free chips and salsa, and enjoy live music on the patio.

Yes, we have to restrain ourselves from ordering entrees from the pricey menu, but it is nice to get out of the house and still enjoy the "date night" environment.

Do some research on your favorite restaurants. You could cut your bill down by more than half!
