Decorating with Christmas Cards

Money Saving Tip of the Month (featured column)
submitted by Annie

For decorating the house during the Christmas season, I make colorful strings of Christmas cards and hang them all over the house. It is absolutely free and gives the holiday look to every room.

I collect old greeting cards and sort them size-wise. 8 or 10 of each size. Then I pick up 2 broad satin red and green colored ribbons and staple 4-5 cards vertically on each ribbon so that it looks like a string of cards. The bottom part of the ribbon which hangs I snip a wedge out to make it look like the edge of a bow.

Keep hanging these card strings in pairs all over the walls. The best part is when family and friends come, they get very excited when they see the old cards they have sent years before hanging on the walls. It's an indirect compliment to them also. All my friends and family try to send great looking cards to us as they want to be featured on my card strings.

My children crisscross their rooms with cords running parallel to the ceiling and just place all their old cards on them. So when you look up on the ceiling it's as though you have layers of cards hanging from there.
