Gas Discounts

Money Saving Tip of the Month (featured column)

Check your local grocery stores to see what discounts you can get!

I live in a rural area with only 2 grocery stores to choose from. Fortunately one of them is Kroger. They offer points for each dollar of groceries purchased. After you reach so many points in a month, you qualify for a discount on gasoline for the following month. They have levels from .10 cents up to $1.00 off per gallon.

In order to maximize my points and get more cents off, I have learned to purchase a Kroger gift card in the amount that I intend on spending for groceries that trip. I not only get credited with points for buying the gift card, but I get points for the amount of groceries I purchase while using it. The points add up quickly.

It's a win-win situation because it is an incentive not to drive out of town to another grocery store. In this economy, gas discounts are a welcome perk!
