Holiday Meals on a Budget

Money Saving Tip of the Month (featured column)
submitted by Bonnie of Georgia

I have a great tip regarding the big holiday meals for Thanksgiving and Christmas!

After years of preparing the traditional meals and realizing that I was always having to throw away a lot of the leftovers or trying to force leftovers on my guests since my kids didn't really eat those kinds of foods, I came up with my own money-saving idea.

I asked my kids to pick a favorite dish that they would like to eat!

Our "Traditional Menu" is now usually:

Pepperoni pizza
Macaroni and cheese
Buttered corn
Collard greens
Hot wings
Cornbread
Banana pudding

Sometimes there would be an addition or a subtraction or two, but generally this is how we eat. Since the changes, I don't have any food to throw away and rarely have any leftovers.

Our "Traditional Holiday Menu" may look weird to others, but it goes over very well with our family and I wouldn't have it any other way!
