Floral Potted Gifts

Money Saving Tip of the Month (featured column)
submitted by Michelle Bara

I always like to give my mother and other relatives flowers or plants on special occasions. This year, to save on my mother and aunt’s birthday (they are twins), I decided to start ahead of time.

I started early and planted some summer perennial bulbs in decorative ceramic pots. I have been growing them for over a month now and they are getting pretty big.

Now all I have to do is add some pretty raffia or ribbon around the ceramic pot and they have a beautiful flowering perennial that will come back every year (and multiply) but they also get a pretty decorated planter as well.

I used some decorative planters that I already had on hand, but you can also reuse some clay pots and wrap with raffia for a rustic look.

This really makes a great cheap gift!
