In order to save money on the smaller things you need while getting rid of things you don't want anymore that are just cluttering your home, use the power of your friends on Facebook.

Set up a Group on Facebook where each member of the group can post pictures and/or descriptions of the things they have and post free "Want Ads" for things they need.
Some people require that everything be free, so it's a virtual, ongoing swap meet, while others allow a price to be charged for items, but it has to be under a certain amount.
The one I belong to is all free. So I've given away an outdoor tarp one day and received a can opener another day.
